Activity 3

Journal entry describing your favorite day of your Europe trip.  Make sure you include the following information:
  • Differences and similiarities with your own country
  • Comments about cultural aspects of the people and places you visited
  • Your classmate´s behaviour and yours

My favorite day in the Europe trip was the first day when we arrived. This day was the September 7th, because this day was the day were we started our journey in this continent. We were very tired for the flight because it was too long...so we arrived to the hotel to rest. We arrived like at 6 o`clock, so the day for the citizens was finishing. I was very excited for being in a place so different to my home that I didn`t want to rest too much, asking for permission to go to walk to the amazing city of Edinburgh. When my permission was accepted, me and other students start walking around the place, arriving to a bridge were was the separation between the old town and the new town. That day we didn`t do any activity for part of the school, but again, we ask for permission to go out at night, going to a party.

It was easy to see that was a big and beautiful city with too many important monuments in it, and that at night the city transforms in a city with to much energy ready for people to party and have a great time. In fact, there were many beautiful buildings that were constructed with the origins of this city, making it more special.

I think that my country is very different to this city beacuse of the time when the people start living in it. What I mean with this is that

London, a different city

Details of the city of it`s own citizens

By Gregorio Salaberry C.                                                                           November 14th, 2014

London is a city with a big diversity of buildings. What I want to say with this is that London has a very long story over the years, creating different things depending on the necessities that they had had over the time. Some special buildings or constructions are the Big Ben, the London Eye, the Natural Museum, the Windsor Palace, and other constructions that call our tourist side.
However, I think that this city is innovated by the technology, using it to be better and grow like a big nation, because if London grows, all England has the opportunity to grow also, for the only reason that London is its capital.

In fact, I had a conversation with Juan Perez, a famous Briton, were we talked about London and saying what he likes most about London. In this conversation he said that for him everything was special in this city. He grew up here learning some things that tourists can't see. For him this place is like a coin, it has two faces. One of the faces is the one that every tourist sees. But there is other places where everything is different, where only citizens are accepted. A calm place without interruptions, where you can think for a moment. Of course he couldn't tell me where it is or the name of the place because it is a secret, but he told me that was awesome.

Also he told that on hot days, if you don`t have any pool, the best thing to do is to walk by the side of the Tamesis River. This is because you can catch a fresh breeze and have a great time doing it, and the best time to do it is at the afternoon because you can walk under the shadow making it more refreshing.

At the end of our conversation, we finish talking about the differences between the day in London and the night in this city. After too many arguments, we came to the conclusion that is just different. For the day you can make some activities that in the night you can`t. In the day you can do all the part of knowing the city, and the important monuments in it; and in night you can know the best discotheques and bars in the city. To say which one is the best only depends on the preferences of the person.

I prefer london.
The nightlife in this city depends on where you go. For example there is a place call Soho where there are many pubs and discoteques. But there are other places, like the place where we stayed, that was near the Tamesis river, that doesn't present any sign of nightlife.

In London there are many tourist places, but there are some ones that are necesary to visit. For me the most important tourist places are the London Eye, from where you can see all the city. Also the Big Ben is a symbol of the city that represents them, for the construction and details of this building. And to me, the Madame Tussauds is an interesting place, where you can have a good time, and know most of the best celebrities in the world.

One of the most known traditions in London is the changing of the guard in the Buckingham Palace. This is like a show to the tourists that is done everyday. The changing of the guard is not only done in the Buckingham Palace. Also this is done in the Windsor Castle, St James Palace and other ones, but the one of the Buckingham Palace is the most known because there is where  the Queen of England lives.

Living in London is very expensive. This is because the transports, the drinks, the food and mostly everything is very expensive, so having a life in there costs too much. For me the only way to have more economic stability is to work in there, because this is controlled by the work laws given by the European Association, that are present in the mayor places of the world.

Glogster Activity

The Phantom of The Opera

The phantom is my favorite character of the book because is a mysterious man that knows what he wants and is willing to do whatever he needs to have it.
Raoul and Christine
Raoul and Christine meet for first time when they were only children in a beach of Paris when he was on vacations. What happened was that Christine’s scarf blew away to the sea and he goes to find it.

 Instructions
We want to leave some instructions for the incoming managers to create an idea of what is going on in this Opera House and to let them know that if they do or don’t do some things, are going to happen bad things.
   1)    Follow very carefully these instructions.
   2)    Don’t sell box number 5.
   3)    Don’t disturb the phantom.
   4)    Don’t think that this is a joke.
   5)    Be very serious with topics about the phantom.
   6)    Make everything that phantom wants.
   7)    Don’t try to find it, because if you try, maybe he will want to kill you.
   8)    Watch Christine very carefully, because something strange is hiding.
   9)    Warnings from the phantom are serious things; try to correct the mistakes that he says quickly.
  10) Try not to fire anyone, because everyone that works in there knows how to treat the phantom very good.

Adjectives
For instance, a fireman is a brave fellow!      Pag. 10
Those who heard her say that her voice, in these passages, was seraphic…      Pag 18
Adverbs
…with his eyes starting out of his head, and practically fainted in the arms of the proud mother of little Jammes.      Pag. 10
…while Sorelli, stealthily, with the tip of her pink right thumb-nail…..    Pag. 11-12

Photo description

In picture number 1, a lot of people protesting against the movie "The Last Temptation Of Christ" can be seen. In the front of the picture there is a man very angry shouting very loud; and at the back, there is a guy with a sign that says "Biblical Jesus, He is equal with God", like saying that the movie is a blasphemy because in the Biblical book says a different thing. So for this people, this movie doesn't have the authorization of been shown on a theater because is lying about the real story of Christ, so it is a bad source of information, teaching false facts to children. This is one of the reasons why all of this people don't give their approval to this movie.

Writting A Letter

Dear Mathias,
I´m in Paris for vacations and I went to the Opera house because I find very interesting this stuff. Over there I heard a very interesting story about a ghost that lives in there and I want to tell it to you. Everything started when the manager of the Opera house came to talk to me before the show. His name was Moncharmin, but I´m not very sure. He told me that a few people that work in there have seen a man that looks like a skeleton, and wear a suit. In fact, also a fireman saw him and said that he had the head of a skeleton in fire. Also he said to me that the Opera scene shifter had seen him; his name was Joseph Buquet; but he was found dead hanging in a cellar, so everybody thinks that the ghost was the responsible of that “accident”.  For last, he told me that the ghost has appeared in Christine´s dressing room, because he pretended to make her only for him, but he left before he do anything with her. When he said me this I imagine him waiting the right moment to do it.
I enjoy hearing this kind of things, so I pretend to go to the Opera again to learn more about this story and make some research.
Regards and talk to you tomorrow,

Gregorio Salaberry
